What to do when your smoke alarms are false alarming or beeping.

Smoke alarms can be very distressing when they alarm or beep for no reason. If you cannot get your smoke alarms to stop sounding you may need to refer to the user manual to work out how to resolve the problem. You should not have to deactive your smoke alarms, however if you end up doing this you should email your smoke alarm service provider or property manager immediately. This way a techncian can be sent to your property to reslve the issue. Following is a list of common smoke alarm models with links to instructions for how to operate or deactive them.

Do you need to know how to operate or deactivate one of your smoke alarms?

  • First make sure there is no fire in your home.
  • When you are sure there is no fire danger locate the smoke alarm that is causing the problem and work out what model it is.
  • The alarm that is triggering or causing the problem will be flashing red rapidly, while the alarms are sounding with an emergency fire alart.
  • Then compare the problem alarm with the list of images below to determine the model of the problem alarm.
